Pechakucha Reflection

Gender equality is a topic I’ve been researching. What I want to talk about today is the unequal division of labour between men and women in family life and parenting.
Therefore, men have occupied part of women’s labour force for free, and women have lost part of their social work ability.

I received a lot of criticism for wanting to mention a father’s family responsibilities in a blog post. Which made me realize it is far too common to place the sole responsibility for childbearing and family on women. I don’t think it is correct.
(This page shows my motivation. But the theme is not clear.)

Men have wielded immense power over a woman’s body and choices for most of history. Just look at this photo of 25 mostly men sitting around a table discussing the elimination of basic access to healthcare for women. Women bear 100 percent of physical reproductive responsibility, but 0 percent of a voice in the discussion regarding rights to the female body.
(A good evidence and research to show the seriousness of the problem.)

I did research on gender role’s differences in housework in China and the UK. You can see the data in the form.
In almost every area except in transportation, women did more unpaid work than man. Married women devote more time to housework than single women.
(Too much messy and little data. I should highlight the data on the main issue I want to discuss. Focusing on a few data points makes it more relevant.)

Women’s participation in public life in the early 1800s (eighteenth century.
Women in every era are struggling for their own freedom and equality.
Some people are trying to make the word “feminism” have a new and different meaning means gender equality, racial equality, economic equality and the end of colonization.
(There’s not a lot of relevance and it doesn’t help me present the topic well.)

This is an app that can provide a platform for women to play a role in the workplace. Different from the previous APP which only focused on women’s shopping or somethings. This kind of app can really give women an opportunity. Which I think can bring more significance to women’s equal rights. If I’m going to do UI design, I would prioritize that aspect.
(It is a research direction that can be further discovered. There should be more learning methods and ideas like this kind of work.)

This is my research of illustrations which is about women’s rights.
There are a lot of designers around the world who are working for equal rights for women. Perhaps Illustration is not as practical as app design but it can also help people thinking.

This is my previous project. It’s about countering stereotypes about women. It mainly focuses on the unfair treatment of women in social life. This can be a reference for my study this time. I can continue and enrich this topic through this current project.

I researched a lot of paintings about women and female empowerment.
These works can give me a lot of inspiration and give me more ideas. I enrich and develop my own works by observing the works of different periods and understanding the thoughts of people in different periods.

Here are my thoughts and ideas on it.
The process of equality never happens overnight. I can’t change the system and provide guarantees. I want to influence people conceptually. I want to inspire people aware of this problem through my work. Let men get more involved in housework and take on more parenting responsibilities. Let women participate more equally in social work.
(Summary
My topic is about gender equality. I want to make a contribution to gender equality and the inequality that women suffer. I should do more research about those organizations and departments which help women’s equal rights. I am going to learn more ideas and methods from them. And I will narrow down the target audience further. On the next step, I will work on form and content.)
